Techvangelism ’06 challenges Christians to make a difference using the Internet

Using technology to reach the world

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 25, 2006 - Menlo Park, CA. – Reaching the world for Christ no longer requires long travel times and extensive training. At Techvangelism ’06, Christians from all walks of life will learn how technology can easily be used for spiritual growth, ministry and outreach. The conference, to be held at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church in the heart of Silicon Valley, includes sessions on web ministry, new techniques for sharing the gospel and unique uses of technology for outreach.  The conference is scheduled for Saturday, March 18, 2006, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m..

Topics of the conference will include:

*       Internet Evangelism and the future of the Church

*       Software for Christian growth

*       Creating community online

*       Sharing your story with others

According to a recent study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project, “Nearly two-thirds of online Americans use the Internet for faith-related reasons. The 64% of Internet users who perform spiritual and religious activities online represent nearly 82 million Americans.” The conference will address how to reach people more effectively through technology.

“Christians are looking for ways to make a difference,” said Rick Langeloh, Executive Pastor Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. “Techvangelism ’06 gives them ways to share Christ with others no matter where they are, using technology as a tool to make it happen.”

Speakers include:

            Walt Wilson, author of The Internet Church

            Pete Holzmann, International Christian Technologists' Association

            Steve Johnson, International Bible Society

            Scott Lindsey, Logos Software

In addition to the main sessions, participants will be able to take advantage of networking opportunities and roundtable discussions to connect with and learn from others.

“Websites, podcasting, blogs – all of these things have a purpose,” said Walt Wilson, author of The Internet Church and founder of Global Media Outreach. “God invented bits for this Internet moment in human history so that everyone has the chance to know about Jesus. Christians can learn how to leverage technology to share their spiritual experiences at this conference.”
